Toboz is the perfect guesthouse in the Mátra, one of the most beutiful mountains in Hungary. Toboz means pinecone in Hungarian and you can easily guess how it got its name. The house itself is surrounded by beautiful trees and forests, and a friend of the host surprised her with beautiful pinecone pictures to decorate the rooms. We hope you’ll enjoy what you find in Toboz!
If you love nature, going on hikes, walks and have a good chat with your friends, family and your four-legged friends, Toboz will be your ideal getaway place.
Sitting on the patio of the Toboz guesthouse, you can watch skiers on the ski slopes in winter, a small stream at the bottom of the garden, and in summer it is a real refreshment to sip a glass of wine in the cool shadow of the trees.
The house is perfect for a group of 10 to 12 people and thanks to the 3 bathrooms you can get ready easily in the mornings too. There won’t be any wasted time, but you can all enjoy the wonders of the Mátra.
For us, Toboz is the the true definition of relaxation. In the heart of the Mátra, the different seasons are awaiting for you with different scenery, lots of wonderful adventures, hikes and places to visit.
The weekend getaways I’ve spent with my friends inspired the creation of Toboz. My goal was to create an environment, where a bigger group could be welcomed comfortably spending time together. Real relaxation awaits you!

We've tried and tested everything. The below is a best-of-list of our recommendation so you can have a faboulous time where you won't be disappointed.
Vöröskő Restaurant
The food is delicious, the prices are great and they even deliver!
We recommend the Vöröskő Restaurant in Mátraszentlászló, as we tried their meals several times 🙂 We can also recommend their Christmas and Easter menus!
Vörös-kő lookout
If you are just planning a short walk in the morning or afternoon, the Vörös-kő (Red Stone) Lookout is the perfect choice.
The lookout is a 30-minute walk offering magnificent views in winter and summer.
Animal park at Mátraszentimre
A small lookout tower and a mini zoo await children and adults at the Animal Park at Mátraszentimre, for free.
You can easily get there from Toboz through a beautiful forest in just 45 minutes.
Ski Park at Mátraszentistván
If you want to ski in winter in Hungary, we can really recommend the Ski Park at Mátraszentistván.
And we’re just a little biased, as you can see the slopes from the end of the garden. So just before taking a nap in the afternoon, you can even count skiers instead of lambs 😀
Observatory at Piszkéstető
The Observatory at Piszkéstető the largest and best equipped observatory in Hungary.
In the middle of the forest you can learn about astronomy and also look at the three telescopes. It’s a special experience just an hour and a half walk from Toboz!
Mineral Museom of Mátra
If you need a plan B in case of some rain, visit the Mátra Mineral House, where you'll find a little house full of minerals and a mineral grinding workshop awaiting for you. Also, if you need to get some mineral cut, you can get it done in one round 🙂
Slovakian Countryhouse at Mátraszentimre
If you still need something to do after the minerals, then pop into the Slovakian Countryhouse at Mátraszentimre.
A real jewelry box cottage awaits you with furniture and slovakian folk clothes.
