We’ve tried and tested everything. The below is a best-of-list of our recommendation so you can have a faboulous time where you won’t be disappointed.
Vöröskő Restaurant
The food is delicious, the prices are great and they even deliver!
We can only just recommend the Vöröskő Restaurant in Mátraszentlászló, as we tried their meals several times 🙂 We can also recommend their Christmas and Easter menus!
Vörös-kő lookout
If you are just planning a short walk in the morning or afternoon, the Vörös-kő (Red Stone) Lookout is the perfect choice.
The lookout is a 30-minute walk offering magnificent views in winter and summer.
Animal park at Mátraszentimre
A small lookout tower and a mini zoo await children and adults at the Animal Park at Mátraszentimre, for free.
You can easily get there from Toboz through a beautiful forest in just 45 minutes.
Ski Park at Mátraszentistván
If you want to ski in winter in Hungary, we can really recommend the Ski Park at Mátraszentistván.
And we’re just a little biased, as you can see the slopes from the end of the garden. So just before taking a nap in the afternoon, you can even count skiers instead of lambs 😀
Observatory at Piszkéstető
The Observatory at Piszkéstető the largest and best equipped observatory in Hungary.
In the middle of the forest you can learn about astronomy and also look at the three telescopes. It’s a special experience just an hour and a half walk from Toboz!
Mineral Museom of Mátra
If you need a plan B in case of some rain, visit the Mátra Mineral House, where you’ll find a little house ful of minerals and a mineral grinding workshop awaiting for you. Also, if you need to get some mineral cut, you can get it done in one round 🙂
Slovakian Countryhouse at Mátraszentimre
If you still need something to do after the minerals, then pop into the Slovakian Countryhouse at Mátraszentimre.
A real jewelry box cottage awaits you with furniture and slovakian folk clothes.

Experiencing Toboz
It was a dream coming true spending time here at Toboz. A picture, a feeling that lived in me for decades and that I was constantly longing for, but I never really found it. The moment I first walked up the staires of Toboz to the patio and let the view and sounds unfold in front of me, I knew this was what I was looking for. I will never forget this, just like the last three days, which was our most perfect winter adventure with Áron and we feel just as energised as we normally are after a two-week holiday in Italy 🙂
Two things are for sure: we will definitely return and spend at least three nights here next time, so we can spend half a day only in the miraculously comfortable bed and with the birds in the garden.
